An evening of acoustic folk song with Jo Philby and Anne-Louise Richards

“Both artists are of a rare breed whose voices have the ability to charm in isolation.
An evening in their company will never disappoint” – Clare, St Leonards Church, Sherfield English

Jo Philby And Anne Louise RichardsDon’t miss this special intimate performance at Sandy Hill Arts this autumn from a new collaboration in acoustic folk song with Jo Philby (Orkney based) and Anne-Louise Richards  (Shaftesbury), born out of Shaftesbury Fringe 2023.

Jo Philby is a popular Orkney based singer/songwriter. She has made Orkney her home these past 21 years and is renowned for her soulful and expressive vocal with her natural ability to convey emotion into each word, utilising textures of folk and roots. She is continually inspired by Orcadian life and all it offers and enjoys sharing an insight of this in her performance. Jo regularly performs at the Orkney Folk Festival and throughout Orkney and has toured further south over the years. Jo has recorded three albums to date.

Anne-Louise Richards is an endearing musician and singer/songwriter from Shaftesbury who has always been inspired by the folk tradition. She writes and performs songs she really connects with and her serene repertoire has an ethereal edge. Anne-Louise is also well known as ‘Mermaid Nerissa’ and regularly performs at the Shaftesbury fringe and beyond.

Together Jo and Anne-Louise’s voices blend beautifully together in song ,evoking and expanding on the folk tradition. They both share a love of song, particularly of the sea and traditional love ballads – each melody casts a spell to enchant their audience and transport them to a cosy fireside or a windy clifftop.

The performance will take place indoors in Room 14, with the bar open at 6.30pm.
