The Snakes in the Heather project; helping to conserve the UK’s rarest reptile.

Owain Masters, Amphibian and Reptile Conservation, will be giving us an update on ‘Snakes in the Heather’, a large partnership project working across the south of England to conserve the smooth snake and other heathland species. He will be talking to us what the project has achieved through its citizen science reptile surveys, its analysis of the data and what the legacy of the project will be.

Owain works for Amphibian and Reptile Conservation as the Snakes in the Heather Public Engagement and Education Officer. Snakes in the Heather is a partnership project to further knowledge about our rarest reptile, the smooth snake, for better coordination of conservation essential for its long-term survival. Alongside colleagues who manage reptile survey programmes, Owain’s role is to develop skills and educate the public in order to improve conservation outcomes for our most elusive reptiles and the dry lowland heath on which they depend.

The talks are held in the Mowlem Community Room, located in Swanage.

Free to members, non-members £3
Tea/coffee available after the talk.
